Elective Travel Research
Are you a medical or dental student who is planning an elective research project abroad and in need of a bursary?
The British Medical and Dental Students’ Trust makes awards of between £500 and £1000 to successful applicants.
The Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS) administers the trust.

The British Medical and Dental Students’ Trust (BMDST), a registered charity in both England and Scotland provides travel scholarships to help support medical and dental students going abroad for their electives. The Trust was set up in 1960 by the British Medical Students’ Association as the British Medical Students’ Trust (dental students were first included in 1985) to allow students to travel to a medical school in Europe. In 1960 the awards were for only a few pounds.
Nowadays the Trust will provide grants to applicants who satisfy the awards criteria with awards of up to £1,000 to anywhere in the world, from North and South America, to Africa and Australia, and beyond.
